Job Description:

Business Wire is seeking a Senior Windows System Administrator to provide expert management of our Windows infrastructure.  This position will have full ownership and responsibility for all Windows infrastructure projects, providing technical guidance and stewardship for our Active Directory environment as well as all other Windows Server needs.

This position requires the ability to work well independently as well as with a team.

Duties include:

  • Work with Technology Department team members (application developers, network engineers, database administrators, security, etc.) to understand their requirements and deliver operating platforms to support their activity
  • Install, configure, reconfigure and tune Windows operating systems in a high availability, 24x7 environment
  • Monitor resource utilization, system logs, make recommendations for system upgrades when necessary, take corrective action for problems as they arise
  • Develop scripts to automate routine administrative tasks
  • Mentor other system administrators as needed
  • Evaluate new products & technologies and/or recommend purchases
  • Learn, use, and tune performance and application diagnostic systems
  • Design, implement, integrate, and manage Microsoft Active Directory
  • Troubleshoot and optimize performance of WAN/LAN of Active Directory Sites and Services, to include replication topology (Bridgehead Servers, Site Connectors, etc.)
  • Develop, test, implement, and manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to satisfy various organizational goals (desktop standardization, power management, endpoint security configuration, event auditing & logging, deployment of printers and other network resources etc.)
  • Integrate Active Directory with other authentication/authorization services (e.g. LDAP, Novell eDirectory, Oracle, etc.)
  • Implement Kerberos and/or other Single Sign-On (SSO) technologies to enable efficient & effective IT resource authentication/authorization
  • Troubleshoot and manipulate Active Directory Schema as needed
  • Manage, troubleshoot and implement Windows Domain Controllers and member servers as well as U ser, Group, Computer, and Printer objects (both locally and in Active Directory)
  • Manage and troubleshoot 1-way and 2-way Transitive Domain and Forest Trust relationships
  • Serve as on-call engineer to troubleshoot operational break-fix issues (if/when necessary)

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years hands-on operational management and troubleshooting Microsoft Active Directory in a high-availability, 24x7 environment
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience building and operating Microsoft Windows Server 2003-2012 server Operating Systems
  • In-depth understanding of Microsoft GPOs and using them to centrally manage computer workstation configurations
  • In-depth understanding of Microsoft network ports, protocols, and services required for effective Windows and Active Directory operation (NETBIOS, SMB, RPC, RDP, LDAP, DNS, DFS-R, etc.) and ability to provide guidance for firewalling these communications
  • Strong familiarity with the VMWare virtualization platform
  • Familiarity and experience with best practices for securing Microsoft Active Directory, Servers, and Workstation computers
  • Familiarity and experience with managing and troubleshooting Microsoft Public Key Infrastructure (Active Directory Certificate Services)
  • Familiarity with networking concepts and DNS
  • Familiarity with Windows Power Shell and ability to write, implement, and troubleshoot Windows scripts
  • Familiarity and experience with Microsoft Windows Server Backup and/or other server backup techniques
  • Familiarity with Puppet, Chef, SMS, WSUS or other configuration management tools
  • Familiarity with Fabric, Capistrano, BigFix or other IT automation tools
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) and/or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or equivalent Microsoft certification(s)
