CRANSTON, R.I.--()--In what most college students accept as ‘typical’ disorder when managing their personal, student group and campus activities, 21 year-old DormNoise CEO and Founder Jay Rodrigues sees a hot business opportunity. Today the company announced it has taken a $500,000 investment from DN Ventures LLC and PRESENT e-Learning Systems Inc., which will be used to accelerate DormNoise’s sales, marketing and product development efforts. Prior to this round of funding, DormNoise raised three rounds of ‘friends and family’ financing that totaled $450,000.
“We are thrilled to see strong evidence of this with the momentum DormNoise is exhibiting. We look forward to the innovation that Jay and his team will continue to offer to campuses nation-wide.”
DormNoise is an interactive collegiate calendar system that gives students a series of interconnected personal, student group, and campus-wide calendars to organize all of their student events, and lets them sync everything to the most popular calendar applications and smartphones. The solution solves a problem that all higher education organizations face: the absence of a centralized, online resource for personal, student group, and campus-related events and activities.
Today’s college students have to balance numerous commitments, activities, and academic-related responsibilities, all while staying organized and connected on multiple social networking sites. Institutions offering DormNoise provide the tools students need to manage their busy schedules and stay well organized and involved on campus.

“From the moment we implemented our first school, the reaction DormNoise has received from campus administrators and students has been phenomenal, said Jay Rodrigues, Founder and CEO, DormNoise. “Unlike other simple online calendar offerings, DormNoise sends email notifications as well as syncs and integrates with numerous online and mobile calendars, including Outlook, iCal, Google Calendar, Windows Calendar, Blackberry Calendars and iPhone Calendars, to serve students and college campuses in their entirety.”
DormNoise is built around an innovative business model that generates multiple revenue streams, including a per-student “seat” arrangement as well as a first-of-its-kind corporate sponsorship program that permits DormNoise to share revenue with its customer schools.
“DormNoise’s momentum and visionary roadmap impressed us to pursue our investment," said Alan Jacober, a managing partner of DN Ventures. "We see DormNoise as the only real player in the collegiate calendaring and communications market, offering a unique value proposition that solves a pervasive and long-standing problem within higher education. We are proud to be joining them in this pivotal growth phase.”
DormNoise already serves as the Official Student Calendar System of numerous colleges and universities, including Bryant & Stratton College, Newbury College, and Clemson University's College of Health, Education, and Human Development's Living and Learning Community. Additionally, it is in the process of closing sales with a variety of other academic institutions.
“Advances in online organization and opportunities to interconnect various aspects of one’s life are changing the way students organize their lives,” said Alan Sherman, Co-Founder and CEO of PRESENT e-Learning Systems. “We are thrilled to see strong evidence of this with the momentum DormNoise is exhibiting. We look forward to the innovation that Jay and his team will continue to offer to campuses nation-wide.”
