Leading Construction Company Boosts Operation Efficiency by Replacing T-1 Service with Faster and Less Expensive Broadband Alternative

(CEC), a leading West Coast heavy construction contractor. The deployment drastically heightens broadband performance and reliability between CEC’s corporate headquarters and its branch office locations by combining several inexpensive DSL access lines into a single dedicated high-speed connection. In addition to boosting raw speed, the construction contractor is able to lower monthly broadband costs by as much as 70 percent or more when compared with traditional T-1 or MPLS services.

At the core of the deployment is Mushroom Networks’ Broadband Bonding Network Appliance (BBNA) that easily installs between the broadband modems and the local network at the customer’s premises without requiring any configuration changes to the existing network and does not require any coordination with the ISPs. The device bonds as many as six high-speed Internet connections of any type, wired or wireless, from multiple service providers into a single Internet connection.

Mushroom Networks was tasked to solve a major pain point for CEC, which was slow Internet connectivity that severely impacted company operations. Legacy T-1 lines with limited 1.54Mbps of available bandwidth connected corporate headquarters (housing all major file and license servers) to offsite branch offices. As CEC grew in size, the T-1s were simply not adequate enough to handle the growing mountain of data stemming from new contracts, CAD/CAM renderings, and thousands of files associated with large projects.

After assessing several options for replacing the outdated T-1 lines, CEC opted to incorporate BBNA to bond together four separate DSL connections. By utilizing BBNA devices, CEC was able to create a dedicated connection between its offices and increase Internet connectivity speeds by a factor of ten. In addition, because the DSL service was acquired from various providers, CEC enjoys near one hundred percent service uptime through the natural redundancies now built into its network.
