nlyte Software Joins The Green Grid

As Environmental Concerns Increase, Consortium Pushes to Improve Data Center Energy Conservation Efforts

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--nlyte Software today announced its membership in The Green Grid, a global consortium dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems. As a leading provider of data center performance management (DCPM) solutions, nlyte Software's membership in The Green Grid will reinforce the company's position as a pioneering Green IT company, and enable the company to collaborate with others in the data center industry to help organizations improve data center efficiency and increase energy cost savings.

At the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, worldwide concern over the exponential increase in energy use became more apparent than ever. In this era of increasing global attention to the cost of energy, nlyte Software's DCPM suite utilizes extensive modeling to assess the impact of data center changes on power consumption, cooling and space – all before the change is made. With its fully integrated and fully functional DCPM solution, nlyte allows enterprises to:

  • make informed forecasting decisions for the planning and effective management of data center assets and physical infrastructure;
  • recover lost server capacity by detecting abandoned servers and reassigning work;
  • and, control power consumption by reassigning or virtualizing workload and decommissioning servers.

The Green Grid seeks to provide industry-wide recommendations on best practices, metrics and technologies that will improve overall data center and business computing energy efficiencies. As a General Member, nlyte Software will help influence both developers and end users of data center technology. The company will also have member-exclusive access to new research results as well as reports and other resources in The Green Grid library.

"Research has shown that only half of the typical data center's energy use is for computing; the remainder is for infrastructure requirements, including heating, cooling, and lighting, where savings can make significant and direct contributions to the bottom line. Without sacrificing computing power, companies can reduce electric power consumption, save money, and contribute to a greener environment," said Rob Neave, nlyte Software co-founder and Vice President of Sustainable IT. "And, according to Gartner, more than 60% of data centers will face space and energy constraints over the next 18 months. By working with The Green Grid, we have much to contribute to the discussion of reducing overall data center costs, and we look forward to collaborating with our colleagues to help companies improve their power use effectiveness."
