NEW YORK--()--ALM’s Law Technology News today announced the law firm and in-house law department winners in its seventh annual Law Technology News Awards program. The awards recognize outstanding innovation by law firms and law departments in their use of technology. These individuals and firms, plus Lifetime Achievement award recipients also announced today and vendor winners in 25 technology categories, will be honored at LegalTech New York on February 1.

- IT Director of the Year: Steve Fletcher, CIO, Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein.
- Consultant of the Year: Craig Ball
- Champion of Technology and Most Innovative Use of Technology by a Law Firm: Tom Baldwin, Chief Knowledge Officer, Reed Smith
- Most Innovative Use of Technology During a Trial: Khmer Rouge Trial Team of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia
- In-house Law Department: Dell Inc. (Dell Patent team)
- Pro Bono: Pro Bono Law of Ontario

Most Innovative Use of Technology During a Trial: The Khmer Rouge Trial Team, now trying defendants for their activities in the 1975-1979 “reign of terror,” was recognized for its success in installing and using technology despite extraordinary difficulties, constraints, and a limited budget.
Most Innovative Use of Technology for a Pro Bono Project: Pro Bono Law of Ontario was selected for its document assembly system for clients who have little or no access to lawyers.
Most Innovative Use of Technology by a Law Firm: Reed Smith of Los Angeles won for its SharePoint ouRSpace system, a firm portal that serves as a multi-faceted central communications and data center.
IT Director of the Year: Steve Fletcher was recognized for accomplishments including the creation of Parkway, a firm intranet portal that not only serves as the firm’s communications center but is also seen as a major business development tool.
Consultant of the Year: Craig Ball, a leading authority on electronic discovery, was chosen for his extensive legal and technological expertise and his willingness to share his knowledge with the industry.
Champion of Technology: Reed Smith’s Tom Baldwin was recognized for his work in expanding the firm’s technological capabilities, including nearly doubling the firm’s litigation support revenue in one year.
Most Innovative Use of Technology by an In-House Legal Department: Dell’s Patent Team, led by senior managing counsel Chad Anson, created a Web-based portal that provides a system for setting up and conducting meetings and voting on necessary disclosures, and also links to outside counsel for assignments and data sharing.
Law firm and in-house nominations were solicited throughout the year from the magazine’s subscribers, and through the publication’s Web site. The award recipients were selected by an independent panel of three jurors, all members of LTN’s Editorial Advisory Board.
