LOS ANGELES--()--Napster, the pioneer of digital music, today made Napster Access, its application programming interface (API), publicly available via the new Napster Access developer portal. Now consumer electronics and web developers of any size can easily integrate Napster content and services into their own products and web pages.
“Current and potential partners have requested access to the Napster API so they can provide a great music experience directly from their site or device”
Napster also used its own API to create a consistent look and feel to its services across all three screens – PC, mobile and TV. The first-use case being on Samsung connected TVs (also announced today http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20100106006018/en/Napster-Live-Samsung-Connected-TVs). Now third party developers can benefit from that same rich music experience using Napster Access.
“Current and potential partners have requested access to the Napster API so they can provide a great music experience directly from their site or device,” said Christopher Allen, Napster general manager. “Now our consumer electronic partners, music bloggers, music fan sites and other businesses, regardless of size, can easily create and offer our on-demand music service and sell MP3s directly from their site or product.”
The Napster API includes access to all of the Napster music service features, including: a la carte MP3 purchasing (via Web), on-demand streaming of nine million songs, radio stations, user-created playlists and Billboard charts. CE manufacturers can also offer free trial subscriptions to customers.
Best Buy Remix, the open API for Best Buy’s product catalog, as well as a number of other developer groups, have been successfully testing a preview of the Napster Access API over the past couple of months.
Consumer electronics device and web developers can learn more about the Napster API, and sign up for Napster Access at http://developer.napster.com.
