Dubai Chamber Strives to Introduce ATA Carnet System in the Region
Chamber Leads the Way for the UAE and GCC Countries to Join the System by Organising a Two-Day Seminar
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As a long-time advocate of the ATA Carnet in the Gulf region, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry led the way for the UAE and the GCC countries to join the system by organizing a two-day seminar and workshop entitled, “Why Should the Middle East Have International Trade Facilitations via ATA Carnet System” in association with the International Chamber of Commerce’s World Chambers Federation at its headquarters in Dubai on the 2nd & 3rd of November 2009.
The seminar, inaugurated by HE Eng Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, is a Dubai Chamber initiative in raising awareness about the introduction and procedures of the ATA Carnet system for the first time in the region.
The seminar was attended by HE Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Acting Director General, Federal Customs Authority (UAE), Lee Ju Song, ICC Asia Director, and senior Customs and Chamber officials from the Middle East and the GCC countries, and a host of private and public sector representatives.
HE Eng Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, maintained that over the years, Dubai Chamber has not only been tirelessly working on laying the foundation for the introduction of the ATA Carnet in the UAE but has been pursuing its implementation in the whole region backed by the ICC’s World Chambers Federation in its vision to support the GCC’s initiatives aimed at enhancing the attractiveness of its member countries as destinations for business, sports, cultural and art events, trade fairs and exhibitions.

This meeting will convince the stakeholders concerned of the urgency to internationalise trade and Customs practices as the region intensifies its integration through GCC to emerge as destinations for business, sports, cultural and art events, trade fairs and exhibitions.”
