Gateway EDI Establishes Independent Board with Industry Veterans

Seasoned Executives to Chart Strategic Direction for Leader in SaaS-based Revenue Cycle Management Solutions for U.S. Health Care Providers

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Gateway EDI, one of the nation’s fastest-growing health care revenue cycle management (RCM) providers, today announced that Ms. Kathleen Earley (former President and COO of TriZetto Group, Inc.), Ms. Peni Garber (Partner, ABRY Partners) and Mr. Harry Totonis (President and CEO, Surescripts) have joined Timothy R. Fogerty, Chairman and CEO, on the company’s Board of Directors. In addition, Mr. Barrett Toan (former Chairman, Express Scripts, Inc.) has been appointed an Advisor to the Board.

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of several key milestones for Gateway EDI:

  • Gateway EDI now partners with over 350 practice management software vendors, who recommend its solution to health care providers;
  • Over 65,000 health care providers (physicians) use Gateway EDI services today, comprising 14,000 provider offices in all 50 U.S. States: a nearly 50% year-over-year increase from September 2008;
  • In September 2009, over 13 million health care claims and over 1 million checks were processed electronically via Gateway EDI;
  • Gateway EDI successfully introduced a collaborative Reimbursement Manager product, to ensure that a physician’s office is being reimbursed properly;
  • In an industry averaging a 30% claims rejection rate, Gateway EDI has seen robust growth in membership to its 99 Percent Club, which is comprised of clients submitting over 200 claims per month and experiencing an acceptance rate of 99%.

Kathleen Earley, former President and COO, TriZetto Group, Inc.

Kathleen Earley was President and COO of TriZetto Group, Inc. until that company was bought by Apax Partners, a private equity company, for $1.4 billion. Before that, Ms. Earley was with AT&T Corporation, where she served as Senior Vice President of Enterprise Networking and Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to AT&T, Ms. Earley spent 17 years with IBM. She serves as a Director of two public companies: Switch & Data Facilities Company and Digital Realty Trust, Inc. Ms. Earley earned BS and MBA degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.

Peni Garber, Partner, ABRY Partners

Peni Garber joined ABRY Partners, a leading private investment firm, in 1990. She is co-head of ABRY’s mezzanine/senior equity effort with responsibility for sourcing and leading transactions. Representative investments include Commonwealth Business Media, Dolan Media, Education Media (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), Healthport, Orion HealthCorp, and Gateway EDI. Prior to joining ABRY, Ms. Garber was with PricewaterhouseCoopers. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Bryant College.

Harry Totonis, CEO, Surescripts

Harry Totonis is President and CEO of Surescripts. Before that, he was head of Advisors Services at MasterCard, the professional and information services arm of MasterCard Worldwide. Earlier, Mr. Totonis was Senior Partner with Booz Allen Hamilton. During his 14 year career he focused on strategy consulting for global companies. He also served in several executive positions, including Managing Partner of the firm’s global banking and insurance practice and as a member of the firm’s executive leadership team. He earned a degree in Computer Science from The Ohio State University and an MBA in Finance from Fisher College.

In addition to these strategic additions to Gateway EDI’s Board of Directors, the company has named Mr. Barrett Toan as an advisor to the Board:

Mr. Barrett Toan, CEO, Express Scripts, Inc. (retired)

Barrett Toan joined Express Scripts, Inc. in 1989. He was named President in 1990 and CEO in 1992. Mr. Toan was Chairman of the Board from 2000 until 2006 and remained the CEO until his retirement in 2005. Previously, he worked in various state government positions in Arkansas, was Commissioner of Social Services in the Missouri Department of Social Services and later moved into the private sector, launching Sanus Health Plan of St. Louis in 1985 which he took public as Gencare. Mr. Toan is a Director for the St. Louis Art Museum and the Missouri Botanical Garden and serves on the boards of Genworth Financial Corporation (NYSE: GNW) and Sigma-Aldrich Corporation (NASDAQ: SIAL). He received his masters in Public Administration from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania and holds an AB from Kenyon College.
