Greener Dawn Goes Carbon Neutral

SOLANA BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Greener Dawn partnered with the city of Solana Beach and Del Mar-based non-profit Nature and Culture International (NCI) to preserve Southern Ecuadorian forests to offset its carbon footprint. The Living Forest Offset Program allows local residents and businesses the opportunity to combat global warming, protect biodiversity, and help local Ecuadorians live sustainably. “Establishing a carbon footprint is the first step to identifying and reducing GHG emissions,” said Michael Chang, Greener Dawn’s energy and carbon consultant. An initial analysis, performed while operating from a temporary office, identified employee commuting and purchased electricity as the largest emissions sources. By strategically relocating its headquarters to a 100% naturally-ventilated space in Solana Beach, Greener Dawn reduced total GHGs by 31.5%. Emissions from commuting fell 48.3% and the carbon intensity of the office decreased 81.2%. The remaining emissions are mitigated through the Solana Beach Appeal program.

To ensure complete and accurate reporting of carbon footprint data, Greener Dawn adhered to accounting methodologies set by WBCSD/WRI GHG Protocol and ISO 14064. The carbon footprint included emissions from onsite combustion, purchased electricity, employee commute, business travel, paper consumption, and shipping. Greener Dawn is committed to remain carbon neutral through continual audits, increased efficiencies, and carbon offsetting.
