Dell Puts Artists' Touch on New Laptops with Design Studio Update
- Illuminations Collection, New (PRODUCT) RED Designs Added to Design Studio
- Immersive, Online Shopping Experience Offers Ultimate Personalization
ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dell pulled back the Design Studio curtain today on new collections providing even more artistic choices for people personalizing their laptops.
“Illuminations can stand for everything from a lamp being turned on and the notion of light, to a spiritual awakening, to that “ah-ha”
Dell Design Studio, which launched about a year ago, is an immersive online shopping experience, similar to touring an art gallery. Customers can interactively view and select from hundreds of designs, artists, colors and patterns that can turn a Dell Inspiron or Studio laptop PC into a fashion accessory. Images are permanently “tattooed” into the laptop lid, making the design extremely durable. Designs for Inspiron Minis are available later this month.
This Design Studio refresh adds more than 80 new works of art to turn Inspiron and Studio laptops into statements of personal self expression. The new selections include 48 unique images from the exclusive Illuminations Collection and 41 bold design updates in the (PRODUCT) RED gallery, which contributes to the Global Fund to eliminate AIDS in Africa.
The News:
- Dell refreshes Design Studio with new artistic expressions from a globally-diverse group of artists.
- New Illuminations Collection and (PRODUCT) RED designs can turn any Dell consumer laptop into a work of art and personal expression.
- Design Studio offers ultimate “Built-for-me” experience with more than 300 designs and colors available in an interactive gallery.
“For people who want their laptop to stand out in a crowd, the Dell Design Studio offers the ultimate piece of self-expression,” said Ed Boyd, Dell vice president of design for global consumer. “Design Studio blends today’s best technology with breakthrough artistic concepts to create an unmatched ‘built-for-me’ laptop only available from Dell.”
Background:
Gordon Hull, curator of the Illuminations Collection, is founder and creative director of Paris-based Surface-to-Air Creative Group. He chose artists Kenzo Minami, Kamau Patton, Jim Drain, Kon Trubkovich, Alexia Stamatiou and Lansing-Dreiden to create works interpreting the Illuminations theme.
“Illuminations can stand for everything from a lamp being turned on and the notion of light, to a spiritual awakening, to that “ah-ha” moment when the light bulb flicks on in your head,” Hull said. “Technology and art epitomize the idea that we can both enlighten and be enlightened. The art in Dell’s design studio uses this notion to elevate the laptop from just a utility to something that expresses individual identity.”
This second installment of (PRODUCT) RED inspired artwork affirms Dell’s ongoing commitment to the (PRODUCT) Red cause. Part of the proceeds from (PRODUCT) RED signature products goes to the Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. The five new artists interpreting the (PRODUCT) RED vision are Emil Kozak, Ben Grieme, Klaus Haapaniemi, Takashi Kusui and Andrew Lim.
The Design Studio is periodically refreshed and renewed, with current bestsellers moving to the Classics gallery. Since its launch, the Design Studio has become a popular destination at www.dell.com, hosting more than 2 million visits to date.
