Strategy Analytics: Mobile Navigators Find Google Maps Most Trustworthy
Tom Tom, Garmin Vie for US & European Brand Recognition
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--When choosing a navigation system for cell phones, more US and Western European consumers trust the Google Maps brand than any full service cell phone navigation system. Also, Tom Tom was by far the most preferred brand of portable navigation device (PND) in Western Europe, while Garmin led by a hefty margin in the US. These findings were based on surveys with 625 automotive consumers in the US and Western Europe. Details may be found in the Strategy Analytics Automotive Consumer Insights report, “Google Maps Outshines Mobile Navigation Solutions in Brand Recognition.”
“For PNDs, it is clear that Tom Tom’s brand recognition lead in Western Europe is greater than Garmin’s brand recognition lead over Tom Tom in the US.”
“Even though Google does not provide audible real-time directions while driving, consumers still trust the Google brand more than any other for cellphone navigation,” commented Chris Schreiner, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics. “This is true in the US and Western Europe.”
Joanne Blight, Director in the Strategy Analytics Global Automotive Practice, added, "For PNDs, it is clear that Tom Tom’s brand recognition lead in Western Europe is greater than Garmin’s brand recognition lead over Tom Tom in the US.”
