37th Annual Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance Will Showcase More Than 80 Wooden Boats June 20-21
2009 Marque Class to Feature Blonde Deck Runabouts
TAHOE CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The 37th annual Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance will provide a treat for Dad this Father’s Day weekend with the nation’s most prestigious wooden boat show. Set for June 20-21 at the Sierra Boat Company in Carnelian Bay on Lake Tahoe’s beautiful North Shore, this year’s event will showcase more than 80 wooden boats of all makes and models, all meticulously and beautifully restored.
The 2009 marque -- or featured -- class is “Blonde Deck Runabouts,” post-war runabouts mainly produced in the late 1940s and the 1950s that feature two-tone deck designs, created by bleaching and staining the mahogany to a “blonde” tone. The grandest of their class and time, the Blonde Deck Runabouts also boast “streamlined” hardware, rakish transoms and big block engines.
For a special Father’s Day treat, take Dad to VIP Day on Friday, June 19, from 12-4 p.m., where he will enjoy hosted hors d’oeuvres and beverages, and a ride on a classic “woody.” Show hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday June 21, which will culminate with the traditional “Roar Off” to signify the show’s end.
Judges representing the highest level of knowledge and experience in the restoration of vintage mahogany boats will evaluate entries in more than 15 classes, and show visitors will be able to participate in voting for the “People’s Choice” award. Sponsored by the Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation, all proceeds from the event will benefit Tahoe Basin non-profit organizations.
