Nuance Mobile’s T9 And XT9 In LG Electronics Handset Portfolio
Leading Global Handset Manufacturer to Ship Industry’s Most Pervasive Text Input on Even More Phones Worldwide
BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), today announced that LG Electronics, Inc. (LG) has extended its relationship with Nuance to ship its T9 and XT9 predictive text input products across LG’s innovative and growing portfolio of mobile phones. T9 and XT9 are the industry’s most trusted predictive text software, supporting a variety of applications to make it faster and easier for LG consumers to send text messages and emails, as well as quickly type URLs via any keypad format, including standard and touchscreen 12-key and QWERTY keypads.
“It’s not just about voice calls on phones today – being able to simply and intuitively send emails and text messages is just as important, which is why many of the world’s leading handset manufacturers rely on our T9 predictive text portfolio”
This latest agreement with LG brings Nuance’s T9 and XT9 to even more consumers around the world on a broad range of devices, including lower-end feature phones and smartphones sold today and tomorrow as their handset portfolio evolves. LG will also be taking greater advantage of Nuance’s extensive language support, currently over 80 languages and dialects worldwide including Chinese PTI (Phrasal Text Input) and SBI (Sentence Based Input), and Indic languages such as Hinglish, enabling LG to expand its predictive text offering into the rapidly growing mobile markets of China and India.
T9 and XT9 allow consumers to unleash the full potential of their phones by maximizing their messaging capabilities. Users can easily switch between input modes and alternate between numbers, letters, symbols, and languages. And for common misspellings due to small hard and touchscreen QWERTY keyboards, XT9 features word correction, making it faster and easier to write text messages and emails. XT9 even enables users to quickly enter URLs on phones that feature an HTML Web browser.
“It’s not just about voice calls on phones today – being able to simply and intuitively send emails and text messages is just as important, which is why many of the world’s leading handset manufacturers rely on our T9 predictive text portfolio,” said Michael Thompson, senior vice president and general manager, Nuance Mobile. “LG has some of the hottest devices on the market and by leveraging T9 and XT9, users around the world will continue to leverage the power that our combined innovation delivers for texting and emailing – or any other text input command.”
T9 and XT9 are part of Nuance’s broad mobile portfolio, which includes the industry’s most pervasive speech input solutions. Combined, Nuance’s speech and predictive text input are changing the way consumers interact with their mobile phones to send text messages and email, place calls, and access the mobile Web for information, directions, music, and more.
