StubHub Trading “Tickets for Trees” to Help Restore Florida’s National Forests
Partnership with National Forest Foundation Will Plant Trees Locally for Every Ticket Sold to Super Bowl XLIII; More than 45,000 Trees to be Planted in National Forests Across the Country
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Last month, StubHub, the world's largest ticket marketplace, launched its “Tickets for Trees” program, an effort to plant a tree for every ticket purchased on StubHub for the 2008-09 NFL postseason combined with direct dollar donations to the National Forest Foundation for the program. With just a few days until the big game in Tampa, fans across the nation are flocking to StubHub to support their team and their environment. Every Super Bowl ticket purchased on StubHub will plant a longleaf pine or similar tree species in Florida’s National Forests including the nearby Ocala National Forest, centrally located 100 miles from Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville. Florida’s National Forests are home to many wildlife species, provide recreational activities for thousands of visitors every year, and are rich in water; trees planted as a result of Tickets for Trees will be planted in areas that require restoration and will highly benefit local communities.
To date the Tickets for Trees program will account for more than 45,000 trees being planted in National Forests nationwide; the sales and donations attributed to each NFL playoff host city will be responsible for thousands of trees being planted in each forest during the coming weeks. The Super Bowl-bound Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers are the only teams that hosted two games during the playoffs and as a result, the Kaibab National Forest in Arizona and the Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania will receive the most new trees through this initiative.
StubHub will plant at least 13,000 ponderosa pine trees this spring in Arizona’s Kaibab National Forest. This highly visible forest has been heavily damaged by recent wildfires over the last couple years, but needs restoration as it is an important travel corridor along the main highway to the Grand Canyon. The large number of new trees will restore natural environmental processes, greatly improving both water and air quality in the surrounding communities. Fans can still help plant additional trees ($1 per tree) in the Kaibab National Forest by donating directly to the cause: https://app.etapestry.com/hosted/NationalForestFoundation/StubHub.html
Over the last several years, Pennsylvania’s Allegheny National Forest has struggled with disease and insect outbreak, heightening the need for wildlife restoration. More than 6,000 oak and other hardwood trees will be planted this spring as a result of the Tickets for Trees program. These new trees will restore habitat for multiple wildlife including wild turkey, whitetail deer, grouse, native and migratory songbirds. Fans can still help plant additional trees ($1 per tree) in the Allegheny National Forest by donating directly to the cause: https://app.etapestry.com/hosted/NationalForestFoundation/StubHub.html
Thousands of trees will also be planted in connection to the other six teams that hosted playoff games:

- Every Super Bowl ticket purchased will plant a tree in the National Forests of Florida
2. Donate directly to the National Forest near you and benefit your local community
(https://app.etapestry.com/hosted/NationalForestFoundation/StubHub.html)
- Every dollar donated directly will plant a tree in the National Forest you choose. Fans can still donate to the National Forests designated to each team that hosted a playoff game, as well as to the National Forests of Florida for Super Bowl XLIII.
The National Forest Foundation is a congressionally chartered non-profit partner of the U.S. Forest Service. The NFF supports community-based and national programs that promote the health and public enjoyment of the National Forest System.
Currently, the U.S. Forest Service estimates that approximately 2 million acres of National Forests need to be restored, but that number continues to grow. Reforestation becomes that much more important because of the wide ranging benefits — trees produce oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide, provide homes for wildlife, and filter clean water for all of us to drink. Planting trees is one of the easiest and most-cost effective ways to achieve all these things. For example, 45,000 newly planted trees would sequester more than 20,000 tons of carbon, significantly reducing the buildup of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere and slowing the rate of climate change.
