“Ask Dr. Mona” was created in response to the high volume of user-posted comments and questions on icyou’s page on YouTube. Dr. Mona now responds to these items in addition to comments and questions posted on icyou.

Prerna Mona Khanna, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Mona, a triple board-certified medical doctor and an Emmy award-winning medical journalist, serves as icyou’s Medical Editor. In this capacity, she helps assure the medical integrity of the site and that the content is accurate and comprehensive. Her college degree is from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, her medical training is from the University of Illinois' College of Medicine, and Dr. Mona completed three specialized residencies: Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, and Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Her medical knowledge is one of breadth and depth, as she has also trained at renowned medical organizations including the National Institutes of Health, Mayo Clinic, Harvard Medical School, Betty Ford Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and Clinica del Lavoro in Milan, Italy. She studied terrorism medicine at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel, and emergency response in L'viv, Ukraine. She spent four months studying the healthcare system in Switzerland as a Rotary Professional Scholar, and has also studied infectious disease in Hong Kong, China and Vietnam, and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Kyoto, Japan.
As the only medical doctor inducted into the Medill Hall of Achievement and the only career journalist inducted into the Delta Omega Public Health Honor Society, Dr. Mona brings a unique combination of medical and journalistic experience to icyou. Her volunteer work with national and international humanitarian agencies for 10 years has enabled her to help victims in Sri Lanka and Indonesia after the tsunami, as well as responders after the September 11 attacks and the Alaska Airlines crash. She has worked to provide emergency medical care to evacuees after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and is a founding member of the Department of Homeland Security. Her relief efforts have earned her commendations from Congress, Texas, California, the City of Dallas and the Veterans Administration. She has been honored more than 50 times for her journalism work, including winning an Emmy Award for her creative feature “The Health Benefits of Chocolate.”
