Movea Unveils the Latest in Motion-Sensing Technology for Consumer Products

Wii-Like Technology Designed For Multiple Markets

2009 International CES

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Movea, Inc., the leader in motion-sensing technology for business communications, home entertainment and mobile computing, reveals today at CES its new applications designed for the healthcare, video gaming and virtual reality markets, as well as its latest groundbreaking controls for digital entertainment.

Movea provides partners with a complete solution including hardware, firmware and software, and its best of breed combination of sensors – accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers – offer sensitive and accurate responses to natural human movement. Premiering its broad range of applications at CES, Movea is demonstrating how motion-sensing technology will enhance not only consumer electronics and home entertainment, but also the health and well being markets. The applications include:

  • The MotionPod™, a revolutionary microsensor device for healthcare and sporting applications, is able to record, transcribe and analyze human motion. The MotionPod is being used by RM Ingénierie (RMI), the French medical information technology company. RMI currently employs MotionPod in its BioVal solution, a high-tech solution that allows physical therapists and doctors to quantify Joint Assessment as well as enhance and monitor physical therapy activity.
  • A virtual reality skiing simulation that maps the pitch and roll – i.e. the way the participant’s feet move back and forth and side to side – of the skier’s movements to control the onscreen skiing avatar and dictate the speed and direction in which it moves, providing a highly realistic and fun in-home skiing experience.
  • A hiking simulation that provides an immersive experience by translating the yaw and pitch of a gamer’s foot movements, meaning that raising an ankle or shifting the feet will control the avatar’s speed and direction.
  • A Windows Media Center control system that allows the user to control music and other digital entertainment by pointing the arm, snapping fingers and turning imaginary knobs in-air.

“Our pioneering work in motion-sensing technology is moving in exciting and far-reaching yet practical new directions,” said Sam Guilamé, Chairman and CEO, Movea SA. “Today’s unveiling at CES is a taste of how our new motion-based solutions are being developed to enhance consumers’ increasingly digital lifestyles.”

Movea’s latest Gyration brand products include the Air Music Remote – a universal remote that offers air-mouse functionality for fans of converged home entertainment – and the Air Mouse, a compact travel mouse designed for business travelers who want the functionality of a mouse without being tethered to a desktop.
