EDF Energies Nouvelles Commissions Europe’s Largest Onshore Wind Farm
Ventominho 240 MW - Portugal
PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Regulatory News:
EDF Energies Nouvelles (Paris:EEN) announces the commissioning in Portugal of the final tranche of the Ventominho wind farm. With 240 MW in total capacity and a single point of connection to the grid, Europe’s largest onshore wind farm is now fully operational.
Located close to the Spanish border in north-western Portugal, the Ventominho project comprises 120 wind turbines (240 MW), the final ones of which have now entered service. The 2 MW wind turbines were supplied by German manufacturer Enercon.
This very large-scale plant comprises a set of five interconnected sub-farms across 30km, with a single point of connection to the electricity grid.
EDF EN Portugal, a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, and Eolverde, an Endesa subsidiary, jointly own 85% of the project.
“We are delighted to count Europe’s largest wind farm among our achievements and it is emblematic of our expertise. It also reflects our commitment and our early moves to establish positions in the Portuguese market, thanks to our high-quality local team” stated David Corchia, Chief Executive Officer of EDF Energies Nouvelles.
Ranking among the top five wind farm operators in Portugal, the Group has built 453.8 MW in gross and 240.9 MW in net capacity there, and is finalizing the construction of another 112 MW (Arada wind farm, 100%-owned by the Group, 50 MW already in service).
