Cisco Press Supports Workshop for America Latina y Caribe
Book Donation Contributes to Training Efforts for Students and Technical Professionals
INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cisco Press donated 40 copies of its Network Management: Accounting and Performance Strategies to the Workshop for America Latina y Caribe (WALC), held in Merida, Venezuela, November 10-14, 2008. In conjunction with the Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC) and Escuela Latinoamericana de Redes (EsLaRed), the WALC workshop contributes to the training of students and technical professionals from Latin American and Caribbean countries.
Workshop participants focus on information and communications technologies, with an emphasis on new developments such as wireless technologies and the use of open source software.
Additional News Facts:
Cisco Press also supported the following NSRC events earlier this year:
- The African Network Operators' Group (AfNOG) received fifty copies of Cisco Press titles BGP Design and Implementation and Building Resilient IP Networks for their conference in Rabat, Morocco in May.

Useable Quotes:
“The NSRC’s collaboration with Escuela Latinoamericana de Redes (EsLaRed) to spread technical knowledge in the Workshop for America Latina y Caribe (WALC) involves participants from universities, internet service providers and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all over Latin America,” said Steve Huter, NSRC Program Director. “We've found that once the workshop training programs are over and everyone goes back home to implement and deploy new things they've learned, the reference books donated to participants are incredibly valuable. Cisco Press books provide a wealth of information that can help network operators evaluate available tools and technologies, and assist with implementation plans for data network monitoring, capacity planning, and network security.”
“I selected Network Management: Accounting and Performance Strategies for the workshop because it is the one book that goes from explaining the benefits of effective network management to the very concrete practical steps that help in accomplishing the creation of a successful network management infrastructure,” said José Domínguez, Senior Network Engineer for the University of Oregon and the NSRC.
