Illinois Technology Industry Index Now Available
First Analysis Securities Corporation and Illinois Technology Association Partner to Provide Illinois Technology Insight.
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--First Analysis Securities Corporation (FASC)* and the Illinois Technology Association (ITA) will present a monthly stock index representing the pulse of Illinois based technology companies. The ITA will make this index and analysis available to its members and through their website (www.illinoistech.org) each month.
The FASC/ITA Illinois Technology Index is a market capitalization-weighted index of publicly traded stocks in the Illinois technology sector. The index data was calculated starting from May 2006, at which time the index level was standardized to 100. Speaking to recent activity, the index level moved from 59.81 at the end of September to 44.87 at the end of October, representing a decline of 25%. The S&P 500 fell by about 17% in the same period.
Tellabs (www.tellabs.com) and CME Group Inc. (www.cmegroup.com) were the two biggest movers. Tellabs contributed .092 points to the index level, while CME Group Inc., the world’s largest futures exchange, contributed a decline of 7.21 points to the index.
A separate index has also been created to trace the development of smaller companies listed in the original index. The FASC/ITA Illinois Technology Small Cap Index is based on Illinois technology companies with market capitalizations less than $1 billion. The small cap index level decreased from 94.19 at the end of September to 71.64 at the end of October, representing a decline of about 24%.
In the small-cap index, Allscripts Healthcare, Inc. (www.allscripts.com) and VASCO Data Security International, Inc. (www.vasco.com) were the biggest movers. VASCO Data Security International contributed .33 points to the index, while Allscripts Healthcare, a provider of healthcare software tools, contributed a decrease of 3.08 points to the index level.
