CHICAGO SUN-TIMES BEGINS SELLING LIMITED-EDITION FINE ART PRINTS OF NOVEMBER 5, 2008 OBAMA FRONT PAGE
Chicago’s most-read city newspaper begins sale of only 44 large prints of the historic Sun-Times front page on eBay
Fans of President-elect Barack Obama can now own a piece of history. The Chicago Sun-Times is selling 44 high-quality, numbered canvas prints suitable for hanging of its dramatic and best-selling front page of November 5, 2008 featuring the President-elect himself with the headline “Mr. President.” The front page was famously featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show on November 5, 2008 when the talk show hostess held it up for her viewers; later that week she declared, "It was the best paper of all the papers in the world.”
Available only on eBay at www.eBay.com, the giclée prints measure 30-inches wide by 40-inches high and 1.75-inches deep and are handmade by Printmakers Chicago. Only 44 will be made to commemorate the election of Barack Obama as the nation’s 44th President and are sure to be collector’s items. The prints are coated with a special gloss to protect the colors and prevent yellowing and cracking, and will be securely wrapped for shipping.
A limited number go on sale each day: No. 2-15 went on sale Monday, November 17, 2008; numbers 16-29 will be up for auction on Tuesday, November 25, 2008; numbers 30-43 will be available for sale on Tuesday, December 2, 2008; and numbers 1 and 44 will be up for auction on December 9, 2008. Opening bids are $350.
The sale of prints follows the record-breaking sale of the November 5, 2008 edition of the Chicago Sun-Times, when the number of street copies sold more than tripled and became one of the best-selling editions of the Sun-Times. “The record sales of the Chicago Sun-Times just underscores the demand by Barack Obama fans across the nation for a strong, enduring memento of this historical moment in U.S. history,” said Willie Wilkov, Senior Director, Promotions and Marketing for the Sun-Times News Group. “We are pleased to be able to offer such keepsake prints with eBay to people who want premium collectibles to commemorate this occasion.”
