Redback Networks Wins 2008 INTERNET TELEPHONY IPTV Excellence Award for SmartEdge 1200
SmartEdge Enables Carriers to More Rapidly Introduce IPTV Services and Cut Operational Costs
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Redback Networks, an Ericsson company (NASDAQ:ERIC) providing video-centric routers for 75 percent of the world’s largest triple-play networks, today announced Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC) has named the SmartEdge® 1200 as a recipient of a 2008 IPTV Excellence Award presented by INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine (www.itmag.com). Part of Ericsson’s IPTV solution, the SmartEdge 1200 has been honored with thirteen awards since its introduction in June 2007.
“Redback’s SmartEdge 1200 provides a highly flexible, scalable and reliable network architecture for carriers deploying IPTV”
The SmartEdge 1200 enables an IPTV network architecture that is more advanced than traditional edge routers or data switches. Unique in the market, the SmartEdge 1200 is the only solution to combine edge routing, Ethernet aggregation and subscriber management at the IP edge. This creates a subscriber and service-aware network with a common session control point for all services. The service control point enables service providers to more rapidly introduce new services, such as IPTV, while reducing operational expenses.
“Redback’s SmartEdge 1200 provides a highly flexible, scalable and reliable network architecture for carriers deploying IPTV,” said Simon Williams, senior vice president of products, marketing and strategy at Redback Networks. “Receiving the IPTV Excellence Award speaks to the technical advantages of the entire SmartEdge product family, including our NetOp Policy Manager, as well as to Redback’s best practices heritage in building smart broadband networks for differentiated IP video services.”
“The SmartEdge 1200 has made a powerful impact in the IPTV market place. Providing innovative solutions has earned Redback Networks recognition from the editors of INTERNET TELEPHONY,” said Greg Galitzine, Editorial Director of INTERNET TELEPHONY.
“My congratulations to Redback Networks for earning their place on our elite list of the 2008 IPTV Excellence Award winners. Their commitment to making significant achievements in IPTV is commendable and we look forward to future innovations from them,” indicated Rich Tehrani, Editor-in-Chief of INTERNET TELEPHONY.
The SmartEdge 1200 was featured in the October 2008 issue of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine, www.itmag.com, along with all the 2008 IPTV Excellence Award winners.
