Tecore Receives USDA Rural Development Acceptance and “Buy American” Status for GSM/CDMA/3G Equipment
Rural Village System and Other Advanced Wireless Products Now Available to Carriers Borrowing Federal Funds
COLUMBIA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tecore Networks, a leading provider of GSM, CDMA, 3G and multi-protocol mobile networks, today announced that its portfolio of core and radio access network products has received Rural Development Acceptance and “Buy American” status from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Rural cellular carriers can now select Tecore products when requesting federal funds from Rural Development (formerly known as the Rural Utility Service).
“Rural carriers are turning to our advanced wireless infrastructure because of its capability to deliver state-of-the-art services with a profile suited to rural territories. Now they have the added benefit of eligibility for federal funding for our products.”
Tecore Networks is revolutionizing mobile communications by enabling operators and government organizations to deliver connectivity across all major protocols and generations through software-defined, IP-centric solutions. The company’s patented network architecture has been deployed worldwide to support GSM, GPRS/EDGE, CDMA and 3G communications. Innovative value-added features such as Over-The-Air Prepaid Roaming can be integrated via software plug-ins to enable carriers to increase ARPU and retention, and product evolution is guided by 3GPP, 3GPP2 and IMS principles resulting in continuous adaptation for future generations.
Tecore’s Rural Village System (RVS) is designed to address the challenges of delivering a consistent level of coverage and services to rural and remote communities as in the operator’s main network given the lower population density and revenue potential. The core value of the RVS is a streamlined infrastructure solution with a suitable cost profile, capable of local coverage and call processing. Management control and network operations are maintained via an IP connection from a central location. With the capability to support GSM, CDMA, 3G or a combination of protocols from a common platform, the system is compatible with the majority of subscriber devices in the market today. Additionally, the RVS provides a comprehensive suite of TDM and IP interfaces to enable connectivity with local PSTN facilities, roaming partners and satellite backhaul as needed. More information about Tecore Networks’ RVS, including a free white paper, can be found at http://www.tecore.com/solutions/rural.cfm.
The USDA’s Rural Development program (formerly known as the Rural Utility Service) ensures equitable distribution of utility services to underserved rural areas, with emphasis on telecommunications and broadband. From 2001 through 2007, RD/RUS has distributed $6.5 billion in telecom grants, loans and loan guarantees for rural areas.
“We are pleased to receive Rural Development acceptance and ‘Buy American’ status,” said Scott Hill, Executive Vice President of Global Federal and Commercial Sales at Tecore. “Rural carriers are turning to our advanced wireless infrastructure because of its capability to deliver state-of-the-art services with a profile suited to rural territories. Now they have the added benefit of eligibility for federal funding for our products.”
