EDF Energies Nouvelles and EDF Energy Have Announced the Creation of a Joint Venture in The United Kingdom
PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Regulatory News:
EDF Energies Nouvelles (Paris:EEN) and EDF Energy have signed an agreement to set up a joint venture called EDF Energy Renewables. The groups are pooling their resources and expertise into a 50-50 joint venture set to become a major player in the UK renewable energies market.
This agreement between EDF Energies Nouvelles, which specialises in renewable energies, and EDF Energy, which generates and distributes electricity in the United Kingdom, will strengthen the partnership initiated three years ago between the two subsidiaries of the EDF group. To date, EDF Energies Nouvelles has sold to EDF’s UK subsidiary the electricity generated by four of its wind farms located in the Fenland, as well as transferring the Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs) associated with its green electricity generation.
By pooling their know-how and expertise into a joint venture, EDF EN and EDF Energy are seeking to capitalise to the full on the synergies between them to make the combined entity a major force in the UK renewable energies market.
EDF Energy Renewables intends to expand in particular in offshore wind energy as part of the ambitious programme recently unveiled by the British government.
EDF Energies Nouvelles has 103 MW net capacity in service and 51 MW net capacity under construction in the United Kingdom. EDF EN will provide the joint venture with its development expertise, as well as a part of its project portfolio, and will enable it to benefit from the terms of the framework turbine procurement agreements it has secured.
EDF Energy will contribute a part of its project portfolio and will buy, through Power Purchase Agreement, all the electricity produced by assets developed by the joint venture.
