This year marks the 10th anniversary of Rohm and Haas Company's innovative Community Partnership Initiative. Since its launch in 1998, nearly 68 Rohm and Haas-sponsored grants totaling $1.9 million have been awarded to more than 47 local non-profit organizations. The grants help non profits that serve the communities around Rohm and Haas locations launch or continue to provide programs that positively impact residents. Grant recipients are chosen by local residents who work with the company's Community Advisory Councils. Their voices and knowledge have guided the program creating greater impact for their neighbors.
2007 CPI Grant Recipients include:
Neighborhood First is a Bristol-based mentoring and monitoring agency for at risk youth established in 2000. The organization works in collaboration with local community resources to address the complex issues of local youth crimes, gang involvement, substance abuse and poor academic performance, among other concerns. The agency also provides structured community intervention and supervision during high-risk times, especially after school and weekends, serving 100 youth and their families annually.
The Delaware Academy of Science, Inc., the parent organization of the Iron Hill Museum, in Newark, Del. used the grant money to fund its two-year “Voices From the Past” community history outreach program for 4th and 5th grade students in the Christina and Appoquinimink School Districts.
Inter-Faith Housing Alliance, in Ambler, Penn., has been responding to the emergency needs of homeless or near homeless families in central and eastern Montgomery County since 1982. The organization provides services such as emergency shelter, transitional housing and guidance in life skills to more than 500 individuals annually.
Musicopia (formerly Strings for Schools), in the Bridesburg community, offers a vibrant combination of music performance and education to students and communities throughout the Delaware Valley, with a particular focus on helping schools build or advance their in-school music programs.
