Census Bureau Daily Feature for Thursday, January 15: First Super Bowl

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Profile America — Thursday, January 15th. After a season that saw some games even rescheduled because of hurricanes, the NFL season is finally getting ready for its impressive showdown. Super Bowl XLIII (43) will be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on February 1st, with halftime entertainment featuring Bruce Springsteen. The first Super Bowl, called the NFL-AFL World Championship, was played on this date in 1967 in Los Angeles. The Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-to-10. That game was far from the social and economic powerhouse that Super Bowls have become. Today, the NFL has 32 teams, and besides a huge television audience, draws more than 22 million fans to its games. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau online at www.census.gov.
