United States Senate Candidate Assemblyman Chuck DeVore Endorsed by More Than Half of California’s Elected Republican Leadership

Campaign Winning Notice for Innovative Web Use

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Chuck DeVore, a California lawmaker running for the U.S. Senate in 2010 against Barbara Boxer today announced that he has been endorsed by more than half of all of California’s elected Republican officeholders.

“I am very gratified by the strong support of my elected colleagues,” Assemblyman Chuck DeVore said, “The unity and enthusiasm at this early stage is unprecedented. My Republican colleagues understand that the economic situation is dire and with California’s unemployment soaring, the last thing we need is more of Barbara Boxer’s draconian greenhouse gas regulatory proposals. We must not allow Boxer to sacrifice the jobs of working Californians on the unproven altar of a Carbon cap and trade scheme based on failed European models.”

Instead of a job-killing cap and trade scheme, DeVore has advocated using modern nuclear power to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also reducing America’s dependence on fossil fuels, including imported oil and gas. Recent polls have shown that a majority of Californians now support increased use of modern nuclear power.

The DeVore for California campaign today announced 26 additional endorsements by Republican elected officials. The campaign had previously announced the endorsements of 16 Republicans, including Congressman Tom McClintock and State Board of Equalization Member Bill Leonard. There are 67 Republicans in partisan office in California. Today’s endorsements include: State Senators Jeff Denham, Bob Dutton, Bob Huff and Mimi Walters and Assemblymembers Anthony Adams, Joel Anderson, Bill Berryhill, Tom Berryhill, Sam Blakeslee, Connie Conway, Paul Cook, Mike Duvall, Bill Emmerson, Jean Fuller, Ted Gaines, Danny Gilmore, Curt Hagman, Kevin Jeffries, Stephen Knight, Jeff Miller, Brian Nestande, Jim Nielsen, Cameron Smyth, Audra Strickland, Van Tran, and Mike Villines, the Assembly Republican Leader.

Separately, the campaign is gaining national attention for innovative online efforts, becoming the first major campaign to use the social networking tool Twitter (to follow: @chuckdevore) to raise funds on the Web. The prominent blog NextGenGOP.com named DeVore’s successful Twitter effort one of the Top 10 Political Technology Stories of 2008.
