Here are highlights from Wednesday’s Analyst Blog:
XTO Energy's Explosive Potential
We reiterate our Buy recommendation for XTO Energy (NYSE: XTO) shares ahead of the company's quarterly results. While credit concerns and commodity-price weakness may weigh on near-term valuation, the company's long-term prospects remain positive, given its substantial growth potential.
Management is expected to use approximately $1 billion in free cash flow next year to pay down debt. XTO Energy is expected to maintain its strong production-growth momentum volumes are expected to rise 29% in 2008 and 22% in 2009.
Chalco Lowers Aluminum Capacity
Aluminum Corporation of China, Ltd. (NYSE: ACH), or Chalco, is the third-largest alumina producer in the world by output. The company expects to benefit from the long-term growth of the Chinese economy as well as through capacity expansion, acquisitions, and joint ventures.
Chalco is investing in its own mine production and is also diversifying its production base by expanding overseas. However, higher raw material and power costs forced the company to reduce its aluminum capacity by 1 million tons in 2008.
Qualcomm a Buy, Target Reduced
We maintain our Buy rating for Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq: QCOM), the largest developer of digital mobile chipsets based on CDMA technology, ahead of fourth quarter fiscal 2008 financial results (ending September 30). The company's fundamentals remain compelling as it has several industry-leading innovative products for a variety of wireless applications.
Qualcomm's legal settlement with Nokia (NYSE: NOK) for royalty related issues and a new 15-year licensing agreement significantly strengthens business planning. It is our view that demands for mobile broadband services and adoption of 3G cellular technologies will continue to grow throughout the world.
Aeroportuario del Sureste Downed
We are downgrading our shares of Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, S.A. de C.V. (NYSE: ASR) from Buy to Hold based on the unfavorable business environment around the world. However, we believe that the devaluation of the Mexican peso will help international growth in passenger traffic at the Cancun airport.
Moreover, the recent sell-off in the company's shares makes ASR's valuation attractive. Nevertheless, third quarter results were somewhat disappointing. Also, the recession in the U.S. based on the recent global financial crisis is a matter of great concern since Mexico and the U.S. have strong economic ties.
