Help: Search News

Search News appears on most pages of the site, at the top of the page.

Dates that are searchable will vary depending on the user's privileges.

The text entered in the Search News field is not case sensitive. Entering a word or phrase using all caps, or any combination of upper and lower case, will not affect the results.

To help broaden or narrow your search, some pages provide a checkbox option to search just the news category shown on the current page. If you don't check this box when it is available, All News will be searched.

Certain common words (e.g. a, the, has, it, am, with, is, also) are excluded from the full text search.

After entering a search word or phrase, click Go.

After the results display on the screen, they can be grouped by Industry or Subject or Geography (this option is only available from certain pages). Click a headline to display the full story, then close the window to return to the results page.

The search can be restricted to these areas of the release:

• Ticker
• Company Name
• Entire Release (default choice)
• Headline

Ticker (Stock Ticker)

Select Ticker from the dropdown choices, and enter a company's entire ticker symbol. A partial ticker will not return any results.

Company Name

Select Company Name from the dropdown choices, and enter either the entire company name or the first few letters of the name, to find news releases issued by that company.

Headline or Entire Release

Select either Headline or Entire Release from the dropdown choices. Enter a word or phrase to search for. To get the best results, consider using some of these options that determine what will be returned.

Use logical operators (and, or, not) to indicate what words should be included or excluded:

A plus sign (+) can be used in place of the logical operator and; spaces before or after the plus sign have no effect:

A hyphen or dash sign (-) can be used in place of the logical operator not; there must be a space before the hyphen and no space after the hyphen:

If logical operators are included in a phrase enclosed by quotes, they will not function as logical operators, but will be treated as part of the phrase:
