Seasoned Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits Lawyer Peter J. Marathas, Jr. Joins Proskauer Rose as Partner
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Proskauer Rose LLP, an international law firm with more than 750 lawyers worldwide, announced that Peter J. Marathas, Jr., a seasoned employee benefits and executive compensation lawyer, has joined the firm’s Boston office as a partner.

Mr. Marathas advises corporate, not-for-profit, governmental and individual clients on all matters related to employee benefits and executive compensation including tax, securities law, accounting, ERISA, and corporate governance issues.

Previously a partner at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis LLC in Boston and co-leader of the firm’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group, Mr. Marathas has a long history advising clients of all types in the United States and Europe including substantial experience working with alternative investment and private equity funds. As part of Proskauer’s employee benefits and executive compensation practice, which recently received a prestigious “Second Band” ranking in Chambers USA, he will advise: major corporations, especially in the financial services sector, with respect to their single-employer employee benefit plans; executives and corporations in connection with highly sophisticated executive compensation issues; and the firm’s transactional practices, particularly in regard to their private equity, venture capital and hedge fund work.
Mr. Marathas’ regular handling of matters affecting compensation of senior executives includes the negotiation and development of executive employment and severance agreements, retention and change-of-control agreements, non-qualified deferred compensation, SERPs, performance arrangements, and long- and short-term incentive arrangements, stock compensation plans, and deferred compensation plans. He also has extensive experience dealing with qualified retirement plans such as 401(k) plans and welfare and fringe benefit arrangements and the various laws and regulations governing them including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, the Internal Revenue Code, and other federal and state laws.
Before practicing law, Mr. Marathas was the director of non-clinical training and education for a major, not-for-profit health care corporation and taught business and technical writing at the University of Illinois and Bradley University. He also served two years with the U.S. Peace Corps. He received his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law and his M.A. and B.A. from Bradley University.
