Bulk Check Deposit ATMs Provide Better Banking Experience for Customers, Say Surveyed Bank Executives

Survey Also Indicates Most Executives Plan to Implement Bulk Check Technology in the Near Future

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Echoing the banking industrys continued transition toward more advanced branch automation technologies, Southeastern U.S. bank executives surveyed last week almost unanimously agreed that bulk check deposit ATMs provide better banking experiences for their customers, and the majority stated that their financial institutions will deploy the technology soon.

The survey was conducted this month by Wincor Nixdorf, one of the worlds leading suppliers of total IT solutions for the banking and retail industries, during an executive forum the company hosted in Charlotte. The Wincor Nixdorf forum attracted 50 bank executives from throughout the region to learn about the latest in branch automation, including Wincor Nixdorfs bulk check deposit ATM, which enables consumers to deposit up to 50 checks or notes at the same time, through a single deposit slot, without the need for envelopes.

Of the bank executives polled, 95 percent agreed or somewhat agreed that bulk check deposit ATMs provide a better banking experience; nearly 60 percent of the respondents indicated their financial institutions will migrate to bulk check deposit ATMs in the near future.

More than 85 percent of the banking executives who participated in Wincor Nixdorfs survey either agreed or somewhat agreed that the technology will reduce financial institutions overall operating costs.

Additionally, more than 95 percent of those surveyed either agreed or somewhat agreed that bulk check deposit technology will be of particular benefit to a banks small business customers, who make more frequent deposits of multiple checks, desire the freedom to bank after regular business hours, and need to complete their transactions with optimum speed and security.

About Bulk Check Deposit ATMs

When multiple checks are deposited into the Wincor Nixdorf bulk check deposit ATM, the ATM rapidly scans the checks and displays images of those checks on both the ATM screen and printed receipt, thereby ensuring consumer confidence in the transaction. The entire transaction typically takes less than one minute, as opposed to several minutes required by one-check-at-a-time ATMs.

Under the federally legislated Check 21 Act, banks can utilize the images of checks scanned at an ATM to process the deposited funds far more rapidly than can be done with physical checks.

Wincor Nixdorfs bulk deposit ATM also affords direct economic advantages to banks, for which deposit transactions typically represent 40 percent of their activities and costs.

Leading industry analyst firm Tower Group reports that every deposit transaction made with an envelope at an ATM costs the bank $1.70, as compared to a teller transaction, which costs the bank $1.40. By eliminating the envelope and allowing bulk deposits with imaging technology, Wincor Nixdorfs ATM reduces the banks cost per transaction to just 40 cents.

Wincor Nixdorfs bulk deposit ATM further decreases operating costs by eliminating fraud from empty envelope deposits and digitally spotting fraudulent checks.

The benefits of the new bulk deposit ATM technology are supporting Wincor Nixdorfs expansion and market share gain in the U.S. On a global scale, Wincor Nixdorf is the preferred supplier of IT products and services to 18 of the worlds 25 leading banks, including all of the 25 leading banks in Europe.
