Power3 Medical Products, Inc. Provides Results from 60 Patient Blinded Validation Study of BC-SeraPro

BC-SeraPro, the First Blood Serum Diagnostic Test Available for Breast Cancer, Demonstrates High Levels of Sensitivity and Specitivity

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Power3 Medical Products, Inc. (OTC: PWRM), a leading proteomics company specializing in the development and commercialization of early detection diagnostic tests for breast cancer and neurodegenerative disease, has concluded a 60 patient blinded validation study of its BC-SeraPro early detection blood serum breast cancer test.

“Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women in the United States. It is now known that women born in the United States have, on average, a 12.6%, or one in eight chance of developing Breast cancer.”

For the study, Power3 used its extensive patient serum sample bank to generate a statistical model that differentiates between breast cancer and control profiles. Sixty blinded patient samples were then tested against this statistical model. The samples were provided by Mercy Women's Center under the direction of Dr. Alan Hollingsworth, a member of the Companys Scientific Advisory Board. Twenty-two biomarkers were used to obtain the results from this study.

By applying decision tree analysis, a method used to model disease and control patient demographics at the level of individual biomarkers, Power3 reported results of 97% sensitivity and 93% specificity. In addition, the Company used Linear Discriminant Analysis, a more robust and flexible method that uses some or all biomarkers in a panel rather than individually, which achieved 80% sensitivity and 87% specificity.

These results are a major step forward in commercializing the BC-SeraPro diagnostic for the early detection of breast cancer. We are finalizing the development program and moving forward with our strategy of providing a test that is utilitarian, accurate, and inexpensive. Detection of a patients protein biomarker profile can now be employed to detect abnormal and pathological states reflected in the serum proteome. With this in mind, application of this test may have a future impact on how disease will be diagnosed, monitored, and managed, commented Steven Rash, Chief Executive Officer of Power3 Medical.

Mr. Rash continued, Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women in the United States. It is now known that women born in the United States have, on average, a 12.6%, or one in eight chance of developing Breast cancer.

In addition to the BC-Sera Pro test, Power3 is currently evaluating its NuroPro® early detection blood serum test for Parkinsons disease in a 500 patient validation study with the University of Thessaly Medical School in Greece. The Companys NuroPro® early detection blood serum test for Alzheimers disease is in the final stages of development and is transitioning into the commercialization stage.
