TeleCIS Wireless Streamlines Focus to Maximize Fixed/Portable WiMAX Solutions
Company Remains Committed to 16d Product and Spins Off 16e Technology
CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TeleCIS Wireless, a leading developer of WiMAX fixed and portable broadband wireless chips, today announced it has restructured to focus its business and engineering efforts toward delivering the industry’s leading SoC solutions to the burgeoning fixed and portable WiMAX16d market. In order to strengthen its efforts, the company has sold its 16e WiMAX mobile SoC technology. The sale of the 16e technology to a premier wireless chip vendor represents validation of the TeleCIS IP and designs – which were originally developed for the 16d System on a Chip. TeleCIS remains completely committed to its flagship product, the TCW 1620 fixed/portable WiMAX 16d SoC, and fully engaged in all aspects of business, including product development, manufacturing, product support, sales and marketing.
“In addition, we are seeing dramatic proof of the health and promise of the WiMAX Fixed/Portable market through strong customer commitments resulting in a current pipeline in excess of 300,000 units.”
The company maintains a full product roadmap providing increased flexibility and functionality to the TCW 1620 as well as developing new features and interfaces. TeleCIS will continue working together with its strong team of manufacturing partners targeting the huge potential for Fixed/Portable WiMAX consumer solutions around the world, developing a variety of products ranging from outdoor CPEs, desktop modems, PC Cards, USB devices, mini PCI form factors, cellular backhaul, surveillance and more.
This renewed focus on the fixed/portable market will allow TeleCIS to meet the enormous demands for fixed and portable consumer devices as the explosion of WiMAX “d” network deployments continue. “There are thousands of 16d Base stations being deployed as we speak, and these networks will support thousands of CPEs, representing a solid market segment for the next several years,” says Mike Hodges, CEO of TeleCIS Wireless. “In addition, we are seeing dramatic proof of the health and promise of the WiMAX Fixed/Portable market through strong customer commitments resulting in a current pipeline in excess of 300,000 units.”
The TCW 1620 chip is the industry’s performance leader, employing a dual receive/dual transmit design (2x2 MIMO+) delivering up to 15dB of additional performance as compared to other products on the market, and up to 2½ times the range for self installed CPEs. This superior performance is delivered while maintaining the lowest power consumption of any WiMAX chip on the market -- under 275mw for the complete Baseband/MAC SoC operating with both channels. This extended range coupled with the extremely low power consumption is leading the way for small form factor solutions such as portable USB devices and PC Cards based on WiMAX Fixed/Portable specifications.
