Bloomsbury Teams with LibreDigital to Let Readers ``Look Inside'' and Search Books Online

Digital Technology Enables Online Book Searches While Protecting Copyrights

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--At the London Book Fair, Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, (Bloomsbury), the childrens, adult and reference book publisher, and LibreDigital, a division of NewsStand, Inc., confirmed that they have collaborated on the new Bloomsbury Look Inside online service, which allows readers to search and preview book content on the web in its true-to-print format.

“Bloomsbury is a leader in bridging the needs of digital consumers while ensuring the delivery quality of books. By expanding the options of how book content is made available to readers, Bloomsbury can provide new options for existing readers while empowering a new generation of online book fans.”

With the new technology, readers benefit from the ability to read and search book content online in a way that replicates the experience of reading through the printed book. In addition, the new online delivery of book content makes it easier for booksellers to promote popular titles on their respective web sites without jeopardizing the copyrights of the authors.

Stephanie Duncan, Digital Media Director of Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, said:

Working with LibreDigital, we can bring book content online in a manner that provides substantial benefits to all of the parties involved, including readers, authors and booksellers. In the end, our ability to bring all of our book content into the digital age will greatly expand how readers consume their favorite books and interact with other fans, thereby benefiting the book industry as a whole.

To date Bloomsbury has already begun digitizing a variety of books from their catalogue and has enabled the Look Inside application on the Internet. The new service is currently available on the web sites of all of the Bloomsbury divisions, including Bloomsbury USA, Walker & Company, A&C Black and Berlin Verlag, and will be available to booksellers in the coming months.

Craig A. Miller, general manager of LibreDigital said:

Bloomsbury is a leader in bridging the needs of digital consumers while ensuring the delivery quality of books. By expanding the options of how book content is made available to readers, Bloomsbury can provide new options for existing readers while empowering a new generation of online book fans.
