Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Selected for Caltrans Statewide Small Business Council

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Diana Borroel, President and CEO of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was recently selected to serve on the Caltrans Statewide Small Business Council. This prestigious position carries great responsibility, and Ms. Borroel will help small businesses vie for a portion of the more $12.8 in expenditures, including 11.2 Billion from non-General Fund sources for the Department of Transportation. This is an increase of $1.5 billion due primarily to Proposition 1B by the voters in November, 2006.

Due to the passage of last years Proposition 1B many projects involving transportation, air quality, and port security will be funded with state grants. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger made a resolution in 2006 that 25% of all state contracts be awarded to small businesses. As a member of the Caltrans Statewide Small Business Council, Ms. Borroel and her colleagues will help the Governor to ensure that small businesses are involved in the opportunities of the future.

Ms. Borroel said, I have a passion for helping small businesses succeed, and I am truly honored by my selection to the Caltrans Statewide Small Council. Through my service as President and CEO of the Hispanic Chamber I know firsthand how hard small business owners work, and I am committed that they have the opportunity to compete for state contracts.

The Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is a very active organization that brings together hundreds of business leaders from all walks of life. On Saturday February 24, 2007 the Chamber hosts their 35th annual Business Awards and Recognition Banquet. The dinner will be a formal affair (black-tie optional), and the theme of the evening is Generaciones (Generations). This theme reflects the importance of tradition and culture in the lives of Hispanic businesspeople in the Sacramento region. Event sponsors are aligning themselves with the Hispanic community because Hispanics are the largest minority group as well as the nations fastest growing demographic group.
