Revver Users Get Their 15 Minutes on Fame TV, World’s First User-Generated Television Channel
Channel Debuts This Week on Sky Digital Featuring Content Supplied by Revver Users
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Revver, Inc., (www.revver.com) the first marketplace for viral videos, announced today that it will provide videos to Fame TV, the world’s first broadcast channel featuring wholly user-generated content. This is Revver’s first broadcast television partnership, providing its users with access to millions more viewers and an innovative, new opportunity to earn money for their work. Fame TV is available to the more than 8 million BSkyB (Sky Digital) satellite television subscribers in the United Kingdom and Ireland on channel 217.
“Revver is committed to rewarding its users for their work. That’s why we pioneered the first revenue sharing method for online video, and that’s why we’ve extended our philosophy to a new platform now,” said Steven Starr, founder and CEO of Revver. “With Fame TV, we’ll give our users another way to leverage the Internet to get their work seen and an unprecedented opportunity to make money.”
Each month, Fame TV will select and air Revver videos that users have chosen to share with the new channel. Fame TV viewers are encouraged to vote for their favorite videos on their cell phone via a text message (also known as SMS), with popular videos airing more often. Fame TV collects revenue from the wireless network for each SMS vote, splitting the revenue with Revver 50/50, which in turn shares the revenue with the user 50/50. The more votes a video receives, the more money a Revver user makes. This income supplements the revenue users already earn through the advertising Revver appends to their videos online.
“Fame TV was created to give anyone with the talent their moment of fame,” said John Hayes, Head of Development, Fame TV. “Online video is hugely popular, so choosing the best of the Web to help populate our channel makes sense. Revver makes it easy for us because they’ve already screened the content and instituted a way to reward its users.”
Revver has created the first marketplace for viral videos by matching individual videos with ads, tracking the video as it is viewed across the Internet and sharing the advertising revenue generated with the creator and syndicator who distributes the video. Revver does not accept copyright-infringing content and pays content owners based on the popularity of their videos. Fame TV is attracted to Revver’s respect for copyright and the selection of high-quality video content its service supports.
