Aviza Technology Receives Repeat Order for Celsior™ Single Wafer ALD Systems from Inotera Memories
Multiple Systems Targeted for Installation at Inotera’s Fab 2
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aviza Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:AVZA), a supplier of advanced semiconductor equipment and process technologies for the global semiconductor, compound semiconductor, nanotechnology and other related markets, today announced that it has received a follow-on, multiple system order for its next-generation single wafer atomic layer deposition (ALD) system, Celsior™, from Inotera Memories, Inc. This order follows on the heels of a successful production release of a Celsior system at Inotera’s Fab 1 earlier this year. The latest order of Celsior systems is targeted for Inotera’s Fab 2, as part of the foundry’s capacity expansion plans, and will be used for 90-nm and next-generation DRAM devices.
“We have continued to benefit from our close partnership with Aviza and we believe that they will continue to deliver the highest quality of customer service and support to assist us in meeting our manufacturing goals.”
With the addition of Celsior, Aviza is now an equipment supplier for both ALD and thermal processing applications at Inotera’s Fab 2. Celsior is the process tool of record (PTOR) at Inotera for all current ALD applications. The series of orders for the latest-generation ALD system is a validation of Aviza’s commitment to providing manufacturing-worthy solutions for customers, combined with leading worldwide service and support capabilities.
"We are pleased to continue our working relationship with Aviza to acquire leading-edge systems for our Fab 2," said Dr. David Liu, Senior Vice President of Production at Inotera Memories, Inc. "We have continued to benefit from our close partnership with Aviza and we believe that they will continue to deliver the highest quality of customer service and support to assist us in meeting our manufacturing goals.”
On September 7, 2006, Aviza announced that, in accordance with the criteria of Aviza’s revenue recognition policy, the Company has obtained sufficient customer acceptances of its Celsior system such that the Celsior system converted from “new” to “proven” technology, and Aviza will record revenue in the current fiscal quarter attributable to sales of its Celsior system when Aviza ships the systems to its customers.
“We are pleased that Inotera has selected Aviza once again to support the foundry’s Fab 2 capacity expansion for its ALD production,” said Subrata Chatterji, Vice President and General Manager, ALD Business Unit of Aviza Technology, Inc. “Receiving this follow on order from Inotera demonstrates Celsior’s proven capability of meeting the stringent technology needs as well as productivity requirements to manufacture increasingly smaller IC devices at the 90-nm and below technology nodes. Celsior continues to gain acceptance from a number of leading global chipmakers — further confirming that ALD technology is being adopted in today’s high volume IC manufacturing worldwide.”
The award winning Celsior system features an innovative chamber, which offers increased throughput, lower chemical consumption and extended process window — resulting in lower cost of ownership. Celsior’s patented showerhead is designed to meet the stringent ALD process needs, with the capability of achieving less than 1 percent thickness uniformity requirements across a 300-mm wafer. The tool leverages a small reaction chamber utilizing Aviza’s patent pending computer modeled gas flow dynamics to reduce the reaction volume and remove empty spaces, reducing the areas available for defect formation resulting in higher die yields. Celsior is based on a reliable, field proven platform acquired from Trikon Technologies, which merged with Aviza Technology in December 2005. This platform includes a robust transfer hub and high-efficiency control system — translating into higher system uptime and availability. Celsior is extendible, allowing the seamless addition of process chambers for adding future capacity or new technology.
