Tyan/AMD/Seagate Set New Standard for Small Business Transaction Processing

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 2006--According to tests conducted by Neal Nelson & Associates, a Tyan mid-tower server using AMD Opteron(TM) processors and Seagate Cheetah disk drives processed over 17,000 transactions per minute at a cost of $0.18 per transaction per minute. The test was conducted as part of a new Small Business Transaction Benchmark, offered by the Chicago area consulting firm Neal Nelson & Associates, measuring speeds for typical small business transactions, such as credit card purchases.

"Small businesses are the backbone of the world economy," observed Neal Nelson, President of Neal Nelson & Associates. "Our new transaction benchmark is carefully crafted to simulate a small business workload for the types of servers that are most popular in the small business environment."

The test system included a Tyan S2881 motherboard, two AMD Opteron processors Model 256 with two Seagate Cheetah 15,000 RPM Ultra 320 SCSI disk drives. System integration and system tuning were provided by the Neal Nelson & Associates staff.

"Tyan's server systems are built to provide performance and power for a wide range of applications in many different industries," stated Danny Hsu, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Tyan Computer Corporation. "Neal Nelson & Associates has pushed the performance envelope forward through what is both an incredible feat of engineering prowess and another great example of how Tyan products enable our customers to gain technology leadership."

"AMD64 technology with Direct Connect Architecture combined with quality components from other vendors, like Tyan and Seagate, results in servers with incredible price-performance," said Pat Patla, Director, Server/Workstation Marketing, AMD (NYSE:AMD). "This particular server test demonstrates that the AMD Opteron processor is perfectly suited for demanding small business environments."

The new benchmark is a client/server test which uses web browser pages for input and includes rigorous controls to insure meaningful results.

"Seagate Cheetah 15K hard drives are the industry standard for systems that require the highest degree of storage transactional performance and reliability," said Bill Schilling, Seagate Director of Segment Marketing. "The transactional results by Neal Nelson & Associates are valuable because they validate price/performance results that could be achieved in real-world type applications."
