Konarka Appoints Daniel Geffken as Chief Financial Officer; Senior Executive Brings 25 Years of Financial and Operational Management Experience to the Company

LOWELL, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 2006--Konarka Technologies, Inc., an innovator in developing and commercializing Power Plastic(TM) that converts light to energy, today announced that Daniel E. Geffken has joined the Company as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. With more than 25 years of experience as a senior financial and general management executive for emerging growth companies, Geffken joins Konarka's management team at a crucial juncture in its history, as it accelerates the development of its Power Plastic(TM) technology, driving it toward commercialization. Geffken has been the chief financial officer of one privately-held and four publicly-held technology-based companies.

Most recently, Geffken was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at OmniSonics Medical Technologies, Inc., a venture-backed medical device company. Prior to OmniSonics, Geffken was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Transkaryotic Therapies, Inc., a publicly-held biotechnology company that was acquired by Shire Pharmaceuticals plc in 2005 for $1.8 billion. Geffken also worked in the leveraged buyout and public accounting industries. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
