OSGi Alliance Opens Release 4 Compliance Program, Certifies First Three Software Products; Certified Solutions Expand Products' Capabilities and Potential Markets
The compliance certification program for R4 is open now for product testing and certification.
The OSGi Service Platform, with its dynamic module system for Java(TM), enables applications to be developed, maintained and upgraded remotely and dynamically and allows for interoperability between the different OSGi based devices and computers. The OSGi technology is already delivered in products and services shipping from several Fortune Global 100 companies.
The OSGi compliance certification program assures customers of interoperability for OSGi applications and services running on platforms certified compliant with the OSGi Service Platform Release 4 specification. The compliance certification program enables developers to build solutions for a broader variety of reliable product solutions that include OSGi technology.
Effective August 1, updates to the program will make it even easier for OSGi members to submit their products for testing and certification, and for qualified not-for-profit organizations and qualified individuals to verify compliance.
OSGi technology adopters benefit from improved time-to-market and reduced development costs because OSGi technology provides for the integration of pre-built and pre-tested component subsystems. Adopters also benefit from reduced maintenance costs and unique new aftermarket opportunities because networks can be utilized to dynamically update or deliver services and applications in the field.
Alliance membership options include the recently established, low-cost adopter associate membership. More information on membership and its benefits is available at http://www.osgi.org/about/membership_benefits.asp?section=5 on the OSGi R4 compliance program is available at http://www.osgi.org/osgi_technology/compliance.asp.
