Authentix/University of York Alliance Receives Prestigious U.K. Award; Authentix Takes Top Honors at KTP Awards Ceremony in London
The Authentix/University of York KTP was focused on developing nanotechnology-based applications to prevent fuel smuggling and adulteration. A spin-off technology from the program is already being used to identify counterfeit pharmaceuticals. KTP programs are partially funded by the U.K. Government and help businesses and universities benefit from each other's strengths. Businesses are able to access academic insight and know how while universities gain experience pertaining to the marketing, operational, and research challenges facing companies.
“Fuel smuggling and adulteration can reduce a country's fiscal tax revenues meaning there's less money to pay for projects like roads or schools and pharmaceutical counterfeiting costs lives”
"Fuel smuggling and adulteration can reduce a country's fiscal tax revenues meaning there's less money to pay for projects like roads or schools and pharmaceutical counterfeiting costs lives," said Ian Eastwood, Chief Technology Officer, Authentix. "It's gratifying to use groundbreaking authentication technology developed in a collaborative environment to defeat criminals."
The Authentix/University of York Knowledge Transfer Partnership employed Dr. Mohammed Al-Jafari. He worked on-site at the Authentix office in York, U.K., while being supervised by University advisors. The two-year Authentix/University of York KTP resulted in several key achievements:
-- The development of a prototype microfluidic testing device
-- Two patents
-- The development of authentication devices that resulted in two pharmaceutical contracts worth more than $1.74M
The Authentix/University of York KTP also helped Mr. Al-Jafari obtain valuable professional experience prior to joining United Pharmaceuticals in Jordan as Deputy General Manager.
The Authentix/University of York collaboration will continue with a new KTP program that will advance the work initiated in the first program. The current program focuses on taking the prototype microfluidic device from a lab setting to the marketplace through the creation of a prototype production version.
