NSTI and TechConnect Partner to Launch Online Networking Platform for Attendees of Nanotech 2006 and TechConnect Summit

“The TechConnect Summit achieves this goal by bringing together a community of innovators to demonstrate their early stage developments in various technology categories and connect them with investors and enterprises looking to bring these ideas to market.”
The Nano Science & Technology Institute (www.NSTI.org) today announced that the organizers of Nanotech 2006 conference and TechConnect Summit have partnered to deploy an online social networking tool that enables attendees, exhibitors and sponsors from each event to easily connect and explore potential collaborative business and technology opportunities before, during and after the May 2006 events.
"It's about finding the world's most promising IP and early stage ventures, and connecting them with people looking to license, buy, or fund their intellectual property (IP)," said Matthew Laudon, PhD, Executive Director of the Nano Science & Technology Institute (NSTI). "The TechConnect Summit achieves this goal by bringing together a community of innovators to demonstrate their early stage developments in various technology categories and connect them with investors and enterprises looking to bring these ideas to market."
TechConnect Summit runs May 8-9 at the Boston Hynes Convention Center, which overlaps the NSTI Nanotech 2006 conference being held at the same venue. Though the events are physically separated there exists tremendous synergy between the two. IP around nanotechnology is skyrocketing because the technology (often the same technology) can be used in several industries for several very different applications. This synergy made bridging the two events an obvious decision.
Connecting two different audiences, attending different events in separate spaces was a challenge. To achieve this goal the two sides deployed a solution provided by Leverage Software, Inc., which allows participants to build an online profile where they can specify what they are looking for or what they are offering. All users remain anonymous though their profiles and interests can be viewed. Users communicate anonymously until both parties agree there is a desire to connect, after which they can then connect online privately, in a discussion group, and schedule on-site meetings. Parties can then continue their networking connections after the conferences.
"A major challenge for both the technology and the financial communities is finding a secure environment in which all parties can interact and explore possibilities for future innovation," added Mr. Laudon. "This solution was created to fill this void, bringing both sides together under one roof -- virtual or physical."
Nanotech 2006 is produced by the Nano Science and Technology Institute (NSTI). The conference and exposition will be held May 8-11, 2006 in Boston, MA at the Hynes Convention Center. Nanotech 2006 is expected to attract more than 3,000 industrial, academic, and governmental attendees, as well as hundreds of exhibitors.
