Survey Reveals Wine Lovers Want President Bush Over for the Holidays; Oprah, President Clinton, Robert Mondavi, and Bill Gates Also Popular Choices

VENTURA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 12, 2005--President Bush is the favorite choice to invite for holiday dinner, according to a survey by The California Wine Club.

The California Wine Club conducted a survey asking their members which public figure or celebrity they'd most want to invite for holiday dinner. President Bush topped the list, receiving over 22 percent of the vote. Oprah Winfrey and Robert Mondavi, patriarch of the California wine industry, were close behind in a virtual tie with 16 percent of the vote each. Rounding out the top five were President Clinton with 15 percent and Bill Gates with 13 percent. The club received 793 responses from members across America.

Many Hollywood celebrities on the list were not popular choices amongst these wine connoisseurs. Not even Donald Trump, Paris Hilton, Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, Jennifer Aniston or her ex-husband Brad Pitt could garner more than 40 votes a piece. Terrell Owens, the controversial NFL wide-receiver, only received three votes.

Cabernet Sauvignon is still King. Club members selected Cabernet Sauvignon as their favorite varietal to serve with holiday dinner. Cabernet Sauvignon received 33 percent of the vote, beating out the traditional holiday favorites Zinfandel and Chardonnay. Not surprisingly, Pinot Noir continued its rise in popularity with over 20 percent of the votes.

The California Wine Club is popular amongst wine aficionados and wine discoverers alike. Bruce and Pam Boring travel across California's wine country searching for the best wines from the State's boutique wineries. Their passion is paying off. The survey also revealed that a resounding 97 percent of responders would recommend California Wine Club to their friends and family.
