About The Retail Mafia
The Retail Mafia is a tightly knit collective of the world's most highly regarded and sought after New York-based street wear brands. The crew is structured and operated to resemble a traditional mafia family. These brands work together to inspire and support each other, and as a collective are pioneers in the world of apparel merchandising and marketing. The Retail Mafia family includes:
alife: alife was opened in October of 1999 on Orchard Street in New York City's legendary Lower East Side with a mission to create a cultural exchange center that encompassed retail, art exhibition, and design with focus on quality of execution and relevance. At the time, alife noticed that the people making art, writing on walls, producing music, and taking pictures were also making consumer goods. alife started what then became a multi-dimensional company active in publishing, retail, footwear, apparel, music, product development and creative direction.
aNYthing: aNYthing (A New York Thing) has been one of New York's most recognizable brands amongst the creative downtown scene, even before its creation in 2001. Started by A Ron, the Don of the Retail Mafia and key player behind the success of the Supreme brand, the company was not only built on undefeatable vision, but also on a strong reputation. Over the years, the company has evolved from the sole production of garments into a creative work force which includes project collaborations with Agnes B, the recent inception of its aNYthing record label, and the coming-soon launch of the brand's flagship store.
The J.Money Collection: Created by Jamie Story, The J.Money Collection is one of the most dynamic streetwear labels to date. Already heralded in fashion-forward circles worldwide, J.Money has not only staked a solid share of New York's Retail mafia, but has been showcased in the world's most celebrated retail boutiques. Jamie Story also has partnerships with Vehicle Skateboards and thecut(TM).
Frank151: Frank151 is more than a strong brand; it is a rapidly growing cultural icon. The company develops, publishes and distributes the Frank Book, a pocket-sized publication, and also produces and distributes Frank-branded merchandise. With the Frank Book as its centerpiece, the Frank151 movement is building a strong foundation in Verge Culture(TM) epicenters worldwide. By capturing the essence of the global urban mindset and youth lifestyle, Frank151 is influencing, enhancing and changing generations and cultures worldwide.
situationormal: The 2003 opening of situationormal in historical Downtown Los Angeles was a breath of fresh air into the city's retail scene, and has quickly become a destination point for shoppers from around the world. Owned and operated by Gregory "Bumpy" Johnsen, the store carries a selectively chosen assortment of hard-to-find, high-end apparel lines and sneakers from around the globe. Greg spends much of his time traveling the world looking for fresh and new brands to carry in his store alongside his own line, SNAFU. The store's hard-to-find location in an unconventional shopping area has added to its luster and uniqueness within the global network of elite retail boutiques.
SSUR: Founded by artist Ruslan "Russ" Karablin, the SSUR brand originally planted its roots in the New York City art scene in 1987. Russ gained attention when he released a series of paintings at group shows in NYC, but like many artists of his generation Ruslan found T-shirts to be a better vehicle for showing his work. Designing T-shirts has now turned into a full menswear line available in better boutiques around the world and at his own retail store located in NYC's NoLita area. Strongly contributing to the worlds of fashion and art, the SSUR influence has been recently reflected in the financial successes of companies such as Stussy, BathingApe, and Supreme, all of which claim SSUR as a major influence.
