The agreement provides Navic Networks with distribution in multiple markets, including Phoenix and Tucson, where the technology has been deployed for more than a year and is used by multiple advertisers and programmers. Cox serves approximately 1.7 million households in Southern Arizona and the greater Phoenix area - the 15th ranked designated market area (DMA).
“Our interACTIVE offering has made a strong business case for advertisers to move their dollars to digital cable advertising from other media”
Navic's Addressable Advertising service, branded by Cox as interACTIVE, is an enhanced new feature that lets digital cable viewers interact with select commercials and programs using their remote control. Through interACTIVE, Cox's digital cable viewers can vote on community issues, request more information, take advantage of special offers, telescope to long-form content, and more.
"Our interACTIVE offering has made a strong business case for advertisers to move their dollars to digital cable advertising from other media," said David Porter, Director of New Media Advertising for Cox Media. "Navic's technology provides the addressability and accountability that enables us to provide our clients with targeted reach and measurable results, which is something the competition just can't provide."
interACTIVE has attracted dozens of advertisers in Arizona, such as automobile dealers, furniture retailers, casinos, schools and universities, financial institutions, programmers, etc.
In addition to advertising, interACTIVE powered enhanced television polling during the Presidential Debate that took place at the Arizona State University between President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry. In connection with the local CBS affiliate and a national polling firm, Cox used enhanced television polling to ask viewers to vote for the candidate they thought best answered each question.
"Navic's technology allows Cox to further demonstrate that the digital cable offering is more than just additional channels," Chet Kanojia, Chief Technical Officer of Navic Networks. "It's about creating a direct, personalized relationship with consumers that also generates new, incremental revenue from unique interactive advertising opportunities."
Navic's Addressable Advertising service powers the next level of advertising sophistication by allowing operators and their advertisers to target groups of subscribers using interactive enhancements on 30-second, 60-second, and long-form advertising. Various types of enhancements include: polling, impressions, direct response, and linking.
