Nanosphere Appoints Chief Marketing Officer; Industry Veteran Joins As Nanosphere Prepares to Bring Protein and Nucleic Acid Detection Platform to Market

NORTHBROOK, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 2005--Nanosphere, Inc., a nanotechnology-based molecular diagnostics company, today announced Michael McGarrity has joined the company as chief marketing officer. McGarrity brings a wealth of marketing and business development expertise to the company at a time when it is preparing to commercialize the Verigene(R) platform for ultra-sensitive detection of proteins and nucleic acids. His skills, proven leadership and strong record of success at opening up new markets will be strong assets to Nanosphere as it increases its profile within key sectors of the molecular diagnostics and life sciences communities.

McGarrity, who has more than 17 years of sales and marketing experience in the medical device industry, joins Nanosphere after 13 years with Stryker Corporation, one of the world's leading medical device companies with products in orthopedics and other medical specialties. As vice president of marketing for Stryker Instruments, a $700 million division of $4.3 billion Stryker Corporation, McGarrity's marketing and business development acumen guided the company into markets such as post operative pain management, waste management and interventional pain management which now account for more than 20 percent of the division's revenue. Also at Stryker, he had executive general management responsibilities for creating a new division focused on interventional pain management.
