Kennecott Land and Qwest to Deliver Advanced Connectivity to Homes and Businesses in Daybreak Community
| Utah's Largest Telecommunications Company Pens Agreement with Utah's Largest Land Developer to offer Fiber-Optic Services to Daybreak Residents and Businesses |
An agreement announced today by Kennecott Land and Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) will make South Jordan's Daybreak development the first Utah development to be connected via fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology.
Through Qwest FTTH service, new Daybreak homeowners in the master-planned community in South Jordan will have Qwest High-Speed Internet service -- up to 5 megabits per second -- covered as part of their Home Owners Association fee. Homeowners will also have the option to choose a Qwest service bundle, including local and long-distance phone service; Qwest Choice TV, an all-digital TV service with more than 200 channels, HDTV programming and digital video recorders; and Qwest wireless service all conveniently integrated on one bill.
In addition, during the home-buying process, a dedicated Qwest representative will work with each homeowner to help them select the right combination of Qwest services for their needs.
"The south end of the Salt Lake Valley is where the growth is occurring, and those who are living there want to work in proximity to their homes. The economic implications of having the fiber infrastructure in this community will help Daybreak recruit high-tech business and those who want to operate without bandwidth or speed limitations," said Utah Governor Jon Huntsman.
Qwest FTTH connections in Daybreak will allow families to simultaneously run today's most bandwidth-intensive applications -- such as high-definition digital TV, Internet access to music and video downloading, online gaming, and streaming video -- and assures customers their broadband connection will support tomorrow's applications with ease.
Unlike some other technologies, the Qwest connection speed is not diminished during peak usage times. Daybreak residents will simply plug their computer into a data jack built into the home and they are ready to enjoy dedicated high-speed Internet access.
The applications for homeowners, schools and businesses at Daybreak are endless and include distance learning, video conferencing and telecommuting. Qwest FTTH also levels the technology playing field for home-based businesses and may help reduce energy consumption and traffic congestion.
"Qwest is always looking for projects that will enable us to deploy fiber-to-the-home in an economically sensible manner," said Jerry Fenn, Qwest president for Utah. "Thanks to the partnership between Qwest and Kennecott Land, Daybreak residents will have access to the most advanced communications services available today."
"Kennecott Land has implemented market-leading energy efficiency, community and architectural standards at Daybreak -- this community is further differentiated by offering the highest technology standards for homes and businesses," said Peter McMahon, president, Kennecott Land.
