Blue Security Announces Initial Success of Do Not Intrude Registry; Nearly 30,000 Users Join Public Beta with Reports of More than 50-Percent Reductions in Spam
Since the debut of the Do Not Intrude Registry, community members have, via the workings of Blue Security's Blue Frog client software installed on their computers, complained to spammers by posting opt-out requests to Web sites advertised by spam. The requests ask spammers to remove Blue Security member addresses from mailing lists and to stop sending spam. No other email security or filter solution provides consumers with an efficient, safe and ethical way to exercise their opt-out right.
"Internet users have the ethical right to opt-out from receiving spam. Spammers have the ethical obligation to honor requests to opt out. Often, spammers ignore these requests. Blue Security provides an automated and ethical way for internet users to exercise this opt-out right," says Professor David Messick, Kaplan Professor of Ethics and Decision in Management at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and the Director of the Ford Motor Company Center for Global Citizenship at the Kellogg School. "Combining the fairness principle of 'one opt-out request for each spam received' with technological safeguards against harming other users makes the Do Not Intrude Registry an ethical approach to the problem of spam."
Blue Security has collected data showing that spammers who are receiving the opt-out requests have begun to comply. Community members will see the change gradually as more spammers comply with the Registry and remove member e-mail addresses from their mailing lists. The Do Not Intrude Registry is based on the concept of changing the spam economy, a process that takes time.
"We are very encouraged by the initial results of the Blue Security beta which prove that if enough users understand that reclaiming the Internet requires sustained effort and patience - then a gradual transformation of the spam economy will happen," said Eran Reshef, CEO of Blue Security. "By working with our members, Blue Security has made improvements to simplify and streamline our solution. We continue to enhance the Registry and plan to launch the fully upgraded service in the coming weeks."
"In my view, Blue Security takes a progressive and innovative approach in enabling a community of users to leverage their individual rights. Blue Security's upgraded service will empower users to exercise their legal rights to opt-out from receiving unwanted spam," says Nimrod Kozlovski, an expert in cyber law, adjunct professor of law at New York Law School, resident fellow of the Information Society Project at Yale Law School and editor of the International Journal of Communications Law and Policy (IJCLP). "The Do Not Intrude Registry enables users to rightfully and legally ask to stop receiving unwanted spam. It is an important advance in the de-facto implementation of the CAN-SPAM Act."

About Blue Security
Blue Security was established in 2004 by seasoned entrepreneurs Eran Reshef and Amir Hirsh to provide a viable solution for eliminating spam and spyware. The company's grassroots approach, the Do Not Intrude Registry, empowers members to request securely and automatically that spammers remove them from their lists. The opt-out action encourages spammers to remove Blue Security-registered e-mail addresses from their mailing lists, leaving spammers free to conduct business elsewhere while defending the rights of registry members.
Do Not Intrude Registry Member Testimonials
"I have been very happy with the results so far. When I first
signed up for the Do Not Intrude Registry in July, I was averaging
eight spam messages per hour. I do not use spam filtering because I
can't afford to miss any business messages. Therefore, spam has been a
particular problem. Over the past two months, the spam I receive has
dropped to between two and three messages per hour- about a third of
what it was when I started."

"Prior to registering with Blue Security, I would receive on
average 100 spam messages per day in both of my email accounts.
Because I am limited to a dial-up connection for Internet access, that
meant a long and tedious wait to load the messages, followed by an
endless process of deletions. Less than a month ago, I put Blue
Security to work. I now have to deal with only about 10 spam messages
a day or fewer. Checking email is no longer a dreaded chore, but again
the useful means of communication I once enjoyed. For anyone who wants
to take back control of their email, the Do Not Intrude Registry is
the way to go."

"The Blue Frog on my desktop is my new best friend. Over the past
three years, I have spent several hours a day clearing my inbox and,
with limited success, complaining to spammers and their ISPs. Since I
signed up with Blue Security, my biggest spammer has taken me off his
list, my volume of spam has been cut in half, and I have my time back
for managing more important matters."
