The Pueblo of Sandia Donates $1 Million in Financial Support for Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Efforts

SANDIA PUEBLO, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 2005--Governor Stuwart Paisano announced today that the Pueblo of Sandia will make a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross in financial support of Hurricane Katrina disaster relief efforts. The donation is made on behalf of the Pueblo's tribal council members, its community members, and employees of the Pueblo and its enterprises.

"Everyone has seen the tragic images of Hurricane Katrina -- the devastation that it has left on our country is catastrophic. In response, the Pueblo felt compelled to take action," said Governor Stuwart Paisano. "I am touched by the generosity of the Pueblo's tribal council, community members and employees."

The Pueblo has a long history of contributing to local charities and events. Charities include American Diabetes Association, MDA Telethon, Presbyterian Ear Institute, and the New Mexico Hispanic Scholarship Foundation.

The Pueblo of Sandia is a federally recognized Indian tribe located in central New Mexico, north of Albuquerque. The Pueblo owns and operates several business enterprises, including a 18 hole golf course and a 228 room hotel scheduled to open in late 2005.
