Jabber, Inc. Ships Version 4.2 of Jabber XCP and Jabber IMA; New Java Toolkit Extends Platform Customization Beyond C++
Upgraded features in version 4.2 of both products include a new Java software development kit (SDK) that allows developers to extend and customize the Jabber XCP/IMA server, using standard Java programming language. The SDK includes the most important functions of the server including the connection logic between the core server and a component; logging; Jabber ID functions and utilities; localized message lookup; and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
Jabber XCP/IMA 4.2 also includes a new external component redirector (ECR) feature that allows the Jabber session manager and text conferencing components to pass all messaging traffic through external components. The external components, created using Jabber SDKs for C++ and Java, can process packets and return them to the regular flow or prevent them from passing through altogether.
"The ECR is especially attractive to our customers who place a premium on compliance and/or security clearance," said Michael Helfrich, senior vice president of product strategy and marketing for Jabber, Inc. "In some scenarios, the ECR is used to redact specific words or phrases from some recipients or to insert information -- such as, hyperlinked stock symbols -- that appears as part of a conversation's natural flow."
Finally, version 4.2 of Jabber XCP/IMA includes a simplified server management tool with basic, intermediate, and advanced modes for server administrators. "Expanding the server administration tools is a direct response to customer feedback," explains Helfrich. "In basic mode, only the simplest options are shown to administrators while more advanced settings are configured automatically, at the same time more advanced users continue to enjoy the high degree of customization, flexibility and extensibility they have come to expect from Jabber, Inc. products."
