mPhase Technologies Executive to Discuss Nanotech Experience
The session, at 11 a.m. June 8 at The Westin, Santa Clara, Calif., will include discussion about mPhase's business model, which is built on a strategic licensing and development agreement with Bell Labs, the research and development arm of Lucent Technologies using facilities operated by the New Jersey Nanotechnology Consortium (NJNC), a Lucent subsidiary.
“What Does It Take To Become A Successful Nanotech Company?”
Simon is overseeing commercialization of a smart nanobattery that is based on a Bell Labs discovery that liquid droplets of electrolyte will stay in a dormant state atop microscopic structures called "nanograss" until stimulated to flow, thereby triggering a reaction producing electricity. In addition, mPhase has recently expanded into a new development thrust for a new class of sensor, technically called a magnetometer, that has, at its core, a Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) device.
The mPhase-Bell Labs collaboration began in March 2004 and has already produced the first nanobattery prototype. Future batteries based on this technology have the potential to deliver far longer shelf life and better storage capacity than existing battery technology. Potential initial applications for this technology may include defense, industrial, healthcare, and consumer electronics. mPhase is also targeting the nanobattery for use in a technically improved, lighter weight battery designs.
In March 2005, mPhase and Bell Labs extended their collaboration to developing a new class of ultra-sensitive uncooled sensors. The companies recently reported that they have produced the first core components of a sensor package, predicted to be up to 1,000 times more sensitive than commercially available uncooled sensors used in metal detectors.
Reporters interested in interviewing Simon may contact Amy Cesario, acesario@technovative.com, or phone (732) 718-9777 to schedule an appointment. As a Silver Corporate Sponsor of the event, mPhase will also maintain an information booth for the duration of the conference.
